At intermediate stations of Yass Junction and Gunning, the conductor had to shoo away confused passengers who thought their Melbourne train was early (and apparently didn’t notice that it was 2 cars instead of 6).

…there seemed to be a great deal of confusion between the staff as to who was doing what; passenger doors were opened and closed, then opened again. Radio calls were made and not answered.
I made the best of it, and took some pictures of a train in a place it doesn’t normally stop before getting back on the train and waiting… and waiting…
here was no information about departing buses, in fact apart from the sign outside proclaiming it as a transit centre, there was no suggestion that there would be a bus departing here any time today.
By the time we reached Dungog, the train was about 45 minutes late, and an announcement came over the PA which was unexpected and about the least welcome it could have been.
Because I had a rail pass, and I had nothing better to do, I decided to catch the train to Edinburgh for dinner.
The crowd spread out along the platform and waited for the train, but as the train came into view, it was obvious that it was actually only 4 cars long!
